DC Board of Accountancy Licensing information

The DC Board of Accountancy (Board) regulates the licenses of professional accountants and protects consumers by upholding the District of Columbia accountancy license law . The accountancy license law is defined by the District of Columbia Second Omnibus Regulatory Act of 1998 (Omnibus), which took effect on April 20, 1999.

The Board consists of five members appointed by the Mayor. Four members must each hold a license as a certified public accountant, hold a valid permit to practice, and, at the time of appointment, have practiced public accountancy as a CPA in the District for not less than five years. One member must be a non-accountant representing consumers. Three members of the Board constitute a quorum.

The Board meets the first Friday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the DCRA headquarters, located at 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024. The Board can be reached by phone: (202) 442-4320 or fax: (202) 698-4329.

Exciting news! On October 1, 2017, the Occupational and Professional Licensing Administration (OPLA) will launch a brand new licensing system, which will fully digitize and automate the licensing process for all applications and processes.

Due to this system upgrade, current application and licensing services will be unavailable between September 16, 2017 and September 30, 2017. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding while we work behind the scenes to deliver an enhanced customer service experience.

All paper applications received after Friday, September 15, 2017 WILL NOT be processed and will be returned to the address on the application.

After October 1, 2017, all licensing services and requests must be submitted online at Paper service requests will no longer be accepted. Beginning on Monday, October 2, 2017, you may call a customer service representative at 866-270-9817 with application questions or for further submission instructions.
