Important Changes to This Year’s License Renewal Process
With this year’s license renewal cycle, the Georgia Insurance Department will transition agent licenses from a fixed annual expiration date of December 31 to a two-year license that expires the last day of the licensee’s birth month. To facilitate the transition, licensees will receive a renewed license for a term that varies between 18 to 29 months, depending on the licensee’s birth month. The Department will prorate the renewal fees for the two-year license to accommodate this one-time conversion effort. The prorated renewal fee will be specified on the license renewal notice.
Continuing education requirements for the 2012 license renewal cycle will be unchanged. The next renewal cycle, in approximately two years, will require licensees to complete two-years worth of continuing education.
Another important change with this year’s renewal is the requirement for licensees to submit a notarized Citizenship Affidavit Form (GID-276-EN) attesting to either United States citizenship or lawful presence. A copy of the required form, along with instructions for completing the form, can be down loaded from the Georgia Insurance Department’s website at: http://www.oci.ga.gov/ExternalResources/Forms/AllForms/GID-276-EN%20JAN2012_Citizen%20Affidavit%20Form.pdf
